Windows 7: New Features, ep4: Searching (Federated Search, Search Connectors…)
by Moumen on Feb.10, 2010, under News, Windows 7
After a long waiting, here comes a new episode from the Windows7 new Features series.

After the taskbar enhancements, the windows aero effects and the libraries, this time we’ll talk about some new enhancements added to Windows Explorer regarding a very common task: searching. (You’ll definitely feel its power if you are used to Windows XP
)
Windows 7: New Features, ep3 (Libraries)
by Moumen on Oct.07, 2009, under News, Windows 7
We’re continuing with our series about the new features. In the first episode, we talked about some enhancements in the taskbar, like: Aero Peek, Pinning, jump lists…etc. the second was about other features including Aero Snap, Vertical maximize and Aero Shake.

Now, let’s go beyond the UI. In this episode, I’ll try to talk about some other features that may not be so “visible”. Let’s get started!
Google Code Jam, Qualification Round’s problems and solutions
by Moumen on Sep.09, 2009, under News, web
This year, I’m participating in Google Code Jam contest. First let’s see what this contest is about (according to them):
“Google Code Jam is a coding competition in which professional and student programmers are asked to solve complex algorithmic challenges in a limited amount of time. The contest is all-inclusive: Google Code Jam lets you program in the coding language and development environment of your choice.”
In this contest, you are given (in a limited time) a number of problems, 2 to 6 to be exact. For each one, you have the problem statement, an example, and two input data sets: a small input file, and a large input one.
Looks interesting, huh? Well, it really IS interesting! I believe that even if you don’t go to the finals, you’ll still be gaining a lot from this contest, because the problems are very cool! They make you “use your mind”. Some of these problems may seem simple; you may be able to solve them for the small input file. But in most times (at least for me :p), when trying to solve the large input data set, the program takes a HUGE amount of time to run. So, for this competition, it’s not about having a solution that “works” to solve the problem; you must have an “optimal” solution which takes in consideration the execution time.
Windows 7: New Features, ep2 (Aero Snap, Shake and more)
by Moumen on Aug.24, 2009, under News, Windows 7
The previous episode was about the new enhancements in the Taskbar. In this one, I’m going to continue with the new features in the UI that will improve our user experience. and facilitate our every day tasks
So, let’s begin with Aero Snap. This Feature allows you to maximize a window by just dragging it over the top edge of your screen. When you drag it out, it goes right to its previous size.
Windows 7: New Features, ep1 (the Taskbar)
by Moumen on Aug.16, 2009, under News, Windows 7
In this article I’m going to talk about some of the new features introduced in the new OS from Microsoft: Windows 7.
Many of the new features that I’m going to show here are intended for usability, they may seem just as stylish UI, but they enhance the user experience so much that you won’t be able to go back to older versions of windows (or other OSs) once you get used to them! (At least I can’t!
), they just make your life easier!

First let talk about some of the new things that have been added to the Taskbar.
